\nLa madrugada de este s\u00e1bado falleci\u00f3 en Filadelfia, Estados Unidos, el historiador Friedrich Katz, autor del libro Pancho Villa, una biograf\u00eda fundamental sobre El Centauro del Norte.<\/p>\n

Katz era profesor em\u00e9rito de la c\u00e1tedra Morton D. Hull, en la Universidad de Chicago, instituci\u00f3n en la que fue profesor desde 1971.<\/p>\n

Katz, galardonado en M\u00e9xico con la Orden del \u00c1guila Azteca, public\u00f3 una amplia obra sobre la Revoluci\u00f3n Mexicana; otros de sus libros son La Guerra Secreta en M\u00e9xico<\/em>, Revuelta<\/em>, Rebeli\u00f3n y Revoluci\u00f3n: la lucha rural en M\u00e9xico del siglo XVI al siglo XX<\/em>, todos editados por Ediciones Era.<\/p>\n

\nLa familia Katz obtuvo asilo en 1940 en M\u00e9xico durante el gobierno de L\u00e1zaro C\u00e1rdenas. Su padre, Leo Katz, era un escritor jud\u00edo y comunista, que ayud\u00f3 a la causa republicana durante la Guerra Civil Espa\u00f1ola y por tal motivo fue deportado de Francia, a donde hab\u00edan huido del terror nazi.

Estudi\u00f3 en esta ciudad en el Liceo Franco-Mexicano. Obtuvo su licenciatura en 1948 en el Wagner Collage de Nueva York. Realiz\u00f3 su doctorado en la Universidad de Viena en 1954 y un postdoctorado en la Universidad Humboldt de Berl\u00edn Oriental, capital de la Rep\u00fablica Democr\u00e1tica Alemana.<\/p>\n

FRIEDRICH KATZ, 1927-2010<\/strong><\/p>\n

Friedrich Katz, 83 years old, of Chicago, died on October 16, 2010, in Philadelphia. Professor Katz was a distinguished\"FriKatzTheSecretWar\"
\nscholar of Mexican history, whose major work on the Mexican revolution drew acute parallels with major trends in global historiography. His wide interests extended from the study of Aztec society to an account of Mexico’s diplomatic role in World War I. Katz taught at the Humboldt University in Berlin before joining the Department of History at the University of Chicago, where he taught for 40 years. Katz was born in Vienna and raised in Berlin up to the age of six, when his family fled Nazi Germany for Paris. In 1938 the family had to flee again, this time to New York. Unable to gain permanent resident status in the U.S., they found refuge in Mexico, sparking Katz’s lifelong interest.<\/p>\n

Katz is survived by his widow Dr. Jana Katz, a pediatrician; his daughter Jacqueline Ross, of Champaign Urbana, his son, Leo, of Philadelphia, and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 19 at 2:00pm at Joseph Levine and Sons Memorial Chapel, 4737 Street Road, Trevose, PA 19053 Interment will be held in Vienna, Austria.<\/p>\n
