CONVOCATORIA A PRESENTACIÓN DE SIMPOSIOS
Estimados Colegas:
Les invitamos a presentar simposios para el próximo congreso internacional Ciencias, Tecnologías y Culturas.
Como en las versiones anteriores, en esta cuarta ocasión nos proponemos un gran encuentro académico de exposición y diálogo interdisciplinario.
La Universidad de Santiago de Chile ha decidido continuar esta importante iniciativa que se dirige a tres objetivos:
1.- Contribuir al diálogo e intercambio entre las diversas disciplinas,
2.- Fomentar la discusión sobre la tarea intelectual mirando hacia el futuro de América Latina y del mundo
3.- Generar un gran movimiento de coordinación que comprenda a personas e instituciones que producen y difunden el conocimiento para desarrollar las fuerzas productivas intelectuales.
Se trata de organizar por cuarta vez un gran encuentro académico en que deben converger todas las disciplinas, en una perspectiva de diálogo y de proyecciones. El encuentro realizará como producto de las redes intelectuales ya existentes y en vista a fortalecerlas y ampliarlas, asegurando la proyección de una sociedad civil intelectual que debe constituirse en una voz en las discusiones contemporáneas.
Simposios, Muestras y Actividades
El IV Congreso se llevará a cabo a base de simposios, muestras y actividades definidas. Los simposios corresponderán a la exposición y discusión de temas diversos. A base de una modalidad de comunicaciones en formato científico, la organización, participación y conclusiones de las mesas de simposios, correrá por cuenta de los coordinador@s.
Debe destacarse también que el congreso apunta a constituirse en un espacio de encuentro intelectual, más allá de los simposios. El congreso contará con muchas actividades comunes: mesas redondas, conferencias, presentación de libros, revistas e iniciativas académicas, reuniones de trabajo y convivencia, venta de publicaciones (sugerimos traer para presentarlas, permutarlas y/o venderlas), reuniones con autoridades universitarias sea de la USACH y de otras universidades para imaginar convenios, sesiones de lluvia de ideas para el mejoramiento del quehacer intelectual, reuniones con líderes de movimientos sociales, especialmente estudiantiles, docentes e indígenas, exposiciones artísticas, visitas y reuniones con instituciones culturales, editoras y otras de Santiago, Valparaíso y Viña del Mar.
Se esperan entre 80 y 100 simposios, con unas 2000 a 2500 personas, de unas 300 instituciones, de unos 40 países, de los 5 continentes. En este sentido el congreso ofrece un espacio donde, además de obtenerse beneficios curriculares inmediatos, se podrán estructurar redes, armar proyectos, firmar convenios, realizar encuentros con colegas de primer nivel, además de realizar algo de turismo.
Se trata de aprovechar una oportunidad como esta para establecer contactos de largo aliento, siendo esta una excelente oportunidad para organizar redes y promover otros encuentros académicos.
El día después del congreso, se realizarán algunas jornadas temáticas, con el objetivo de ofrecer otras opciones académicas que permitan aprovechar mejor el viaje a Santiago. La inscripción en éstas es completamente independiente del congreso y recibirán certificados respectivos.
Propuesta de Simposios
Quienes hayan organizado simposios en versiones anteriores del Congreso, podrán replicar la iniciativa incorporando las modificaciones que estimen pertinentes. Si incorporan nuev@s coordinador@s, deberán contar con doctorado. Los simposios que ya han operado en algunos de los congresos anteriores esperamos que se superen a sí mismos: quizás reformulando sus propuestas, aumentando sus redes, mejorando su gestión, elevando el nivel de los trabajos y de la discusión.

Quienes presenten simposios por primera vez, serán 3 personas de diversas áreas disciplinarias y países, y donde al menos 2 de ellas dispongan de doctorado.
Las propuestas deberán contar con un título, un equipo organizador, una convocatoria (10 a 15 líneas), la pertenencia institucional y una nómina inicial con al menos 12 personas comprometidas a participar, que no podrán ser estudiantes de pre-grado, para quienes habrá simposios especiales. Cada persona no podrá organizar más de un simposio, pues estos se desarrollan a lo largo de todo el congreso.
El simposio deberá convocar al diálogo interdisciplinario y, por tanto, no podrá ser monográfico.
Para realizarse, el simposio deberá contar con una cantidad de 18 a 40 trabajos. Los simposios no aprobarán más de 40 trabajos, pues no alcanzaría el tiempo para presentarlos, en las poco más de15 horas disponibles (25 minutos por trabajo, incluido el intercambio). Si el equipo organizador recibiera muchos trabajos, podrá sugerir a otras personas crear un simposio paralelo que contará con las mismas condiciones del primero. No podrán operar simposios que no alcancen los 18 trabajos, derivándose estos a simposios de temas similares.
Quienes organizan simposios evaluarán los resúmenes solicitados y recibidos (español, portugués, inglés). Se sugiere que estos sean de unas 200 palabras, con título descriptivo, autor(@s, mail, institución, cuerpo del resumen (times new roman 12, interlineado 1,5).
La aprobación será en dos pasos y ello en razón de la alta deserción en los congresos anteriores y de la cantidad de gente detectada que envía resúmenes sin la intención de participar realmente, obligando a un gran trabajo a las coordinaciones, como en la confección de libros de resúmenes, de certificados y otras cosas, permitiéndonos reducir los montos de inscripción. De este modo, en primera instancia se aprobará el resumen a través de un mail simple. Una vez recibida esta pre-aprobación, la persona interesada pagará la inscripción electrónicamente. Recibirá un comprobante que enviará a la coordinación del simposio. Una vez recibido, la coordinación emitirá certificado oficial de aceptación e incorporará el resumen al archivo que luego nos enviará. (Esto no procede para estudiantes de pre-grado, cuyo sistema es diferente.)
Nota Quienes lo deseen, podrán inscribirse directamente y en moneda nacional en el Instituto de Estudios Avanzados de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Román Díaz 89, Providencia, Santiago, en horarios de oficina.
– Cada simposio se auto-gestiona. Quienes organizan el simposio deben asumir los tiempos, teniendo en cuenta la existencia de numerosas actividades diferentes durante el congreso. Cada simposio dispondrá de solo una sala para trabajar auto-gestionadamente durante los días del congreso. Si el simposio cuenta con menos de 25 trabajos dispondrá de dicha sala durante medio congreso.
– El plazo para la recepción de propuestas de simposio se extiende hasta el 30 junio 2014. La propuesta será enviada a grancongreso2015@gmail.com
– Las personas que coordinen simposios no pagarán inscripción en el congreso y contarán con alojamiento gratuito en habitación doble, con desayuno, hotel 4 estrellas (sólo para extranjeros), y a una recepción en el Instituto de Estudios Avanzados de la Universidad de Santiago de Chile. Se entregará certificado por la organización del simposio.
– Cada persona que coordine un simposio deberá enviar, por mail, una nota comprometiéndose a promover y gestionar su simposio, anexándola a la propuesta temática.
– No se aceptarán más de 100 simposios, por razones de organización e infraestructura.
– Una vez que el simposio sea aprobado, se incorporará a la página-web del congreso y se comenzará su difusión, a la que contribuirán quienes lo han presentado.
– En los simposios podrán presentarse trabajos en portugués, español e inglés
– Una persona no podrá presentar más de 2 trabajos al congreso y no recibirá más de dos certificados. Si presenta dos trabajos, paga inscripción solo una vez.
– Sin ser obligatorio, se motiva a quienes organizan a preparar una publicación virtual y/o papel, con los mejores trabajos del simposio. El congreso apoyará económicamente estas iniciativas.

Derecho a participación: Ponencistas, profesores universitarios y profesionales de instituciones de investigación 95 USD
Ponencistas, estudiantes de postgrado 70 USD
Estudiantes de pre-grado y participantes sin ponencia 40 USD o 25.000 pesos chilenos, se inscribirán durante el congreso.

SYMPOSIUM PRESENTATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Esteemed colleagues
We invite you to present symposiums for the next international congress: Sciences, Technologies and Cultures.
As in previous occasions, in this fourth version we propose a great academic gathering for the exhibition of works and interdisciplinary dialogue.
The Universidad de Santiago de Chile has decided to continue with this important initiative focusing on three objectives:
1.- Contributing to dialogue and exchange between diverse disciplines.
2.- Encouraging the discussion of the intellectual task looking towards the future of Latin America and the world.
3.- To generate a big coordination movement including people and institutions that produce and spread knowledge to develop intellectual productive forces.
The idea is to organize for the fourth time a great academic congress where all disciplines must converge, in an instance of dialogue and projections. The congress will be carried out as a product of preexisting intellectual networks, looking forward to strengthen and widen them, ensuring the projection of a civil intellectual society that should be constituted as a voice in the contemporary discussions.
Symposiums, exhibitions and activities
The IV Congress will include symposiums, exhibitions and defined activities. The symposiums will consist in the exhibition and discussion of diverse issues. Based on a modality of scientific communications format, the organization, participation and conclusions of the symposiums will be the responsibility of the coordinators.
It must be emphasized that the congress is looking to constitute itself as a space for intellectual encounter, beyond the symposiums. The congress will count with several common activities: round tables, conferences, book presentations, magazines and academic initiatives, work reunions, selling publications (we suggest you bring some to exhibit, trade or sell them), spending time, having reunions with university authorities from USACH or other universities to plan agreements, brainstorming sessions for the betterment of the intellectual work, meetings with leaders from social movements, specially students, teachers and indigenous, art shows, visits and meetings with cultural groups, publishing houses and others from Santiago, Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.
We expect between 80 and 100 symposiums, with a medium audience of 2000-2500, 300 institutions, people from over 40 countries from the 5 continents. In this sense, the congress offers a space where (apart from immediate curricular benefits) you will be able to articulate networks, create projects, sign agreements, carry out meetings with first rate colleagues and do some tourism.
The idea is to profit from this one of kind opportunity to establish long standing contacts, because this is an excellent opportunity to organize networks and promote other academic encounters.
The day after the congress there will be some thematic conferences, with the purpose of offering academic options to make the best of a trip to Santiago. The registration in these is completely independent from the congress and the respective certificates will be given to the attendants.
Symposium Proposal
· Those who have organized symposiums in previous versions of the Congress will be allowed to do it again incorporating the modifications they think necessary. New coordinators must have a doctorate. We expect the symposiums from previous Congresses to surpass themselves: maybe by reformulating their proposals, increasing their networks, improving their management, raising the level of their works and discussion. grancongreso2015@gmail.com
·Those presenting symposiums for the first time will be three people from different areas and countries where at least two of them count with a doctorate.
·Proposals must include a title, an organizing team, an invitation (10 to 15 lines), institutional ownership and an initial list with at least 12 people committed to participate, not undergraduate students, for whom there will be special symposiums. Each person will be able to organize only one symposium, because these are organized all along the Congress.
· The symposiums must call for interdisciplinary dialogue; therefore, they must not be monographic.
· To be accepted, the symposium must count with a quantity of 18 to 40 works. The symposiums won’t approve more than 40 works, because there wouldn’t be time to present them all in the available time, 15 hours distributed in 25 minutes per work, including the exchange. If the organizing team should receive a lot of works, they may suggest the creation of a parallel symposium with the same conditions of the first. Symposiums with less than 18 works won’t be allowed to operate and the received works will be derived to similar symposiums.
· Symposium organizers will evaluate the requested and received abstracts (Spanish, Portuguese and English). We suggest that they are no more than 200 words long, with a descriptive title, author(s), institution and a Times New Roman font, size 12, interlined 1, 5.
The approval will be carried out in two steps, this because of the considerable desertion rate in previous congresses and the amount of people detected sending abstracts without the real intention of participating, forcing the coordinators to a great work, making books with abstracts, certificates and other things, allowing is to reduce the inscription fee. This way, first the abstract will be approved through a simple email. Once this pre-approval is received, the coordinators will send an official approval certificate and will incorporate the abstract in the archive sent to us. (This doesn’t work for undergraduate students, who have a different system).
Note: Those interested will be able to register themselves directly paying with national coin in the Instituto de Estudios Avanzados of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile, located in Román Díaz 89, Providencia, Santiago, at working hours.
· Every symposium will be self-managed. Those organizing the symposium must assume the times, having in mind the existence of numerous activities during the Congress. Every symposium will count with a single classroom for their self-managed work during the days of the Congress. If the symposium counts with less than 25 works, they will count with that classroom for half the duration of the Congress.
· The deadline for the reception of proposals is extended to June 30, 2014. The proposal will be sent to grancongreso2015@gmail.com.
· People coordinating symposiums will not pay for registration and will count with free lodgings in a double room on a 4 stars hotel (only for foreigners), and a reception at the Instituto de Estudios Avanzados of the Universidad de Santiago de Chile. A certificate will be given, attesting for the organization of the symposium.
· Each person coordinating a symposium will send a note, by mail, committing themselves to promote and manage their symposium, attaching it to the thematic proposal.
· Because of organization and infrastructure reasons, it will be impossible to accept more than a 100 symposiums.
· Once the symposium is approved, it will be incorporated in the Congress’s web site and its promotion will begin. Promotion in which the people who created the symposium will contribute.
· Only works presented in Portuguese, Spanish and English will be received.
· A person will be able to present only two works in the congress and won’t receive more than two certificates. If two works are presented, this person will pay just one registration.
· It is not obligatory, but we call the organization to prepare a publication, either on paper or virtual, with the best works on the symposium. The Congress will economically support these initiatives.

Right to participate:
Lecturer, university professor and professionals from investigative institutions: 95 USD.
Lecturer, postgraduate student: 70 USD.
Undergraduate students and participants without a lecture: 40 USD or 25.000 Chilean pesos, will register themselves during the congress
